Job Description

Goonoo is a feedlot, backgrounding and farming property straddling the Comet River in Central Queensland. It is located 65km from Emerald, 20km south of Comet and 250km west of Rockhampton.

The main purpose of the position is to assist in the day to day operation of feedlot maintenance. The position includes operating and maintaining machinery, water maintenance, fabrication and welding. The role also includes assisting in preventive maintenance and ensuring pen surfaces are well kept to meet animal welfare standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean pens after every outturn of cattle.
  • Maintain the manure pack on top of all pens.
  • Clean out under fences
  • Clean feed aprons and water trough aprons.
  • Repair pot holes in pens.
  • Clean cattle alleys
  • Maintain records of manure carting
  • Maintain and service all pen cleaning machinery
  • Ensure livestock welfare is upheld
  • Assist in the maintenance of all mill machinery
  • Assist in bunk cleaning as required.
  • Carryout general feedlot maintenance as directed
  • Maintain a clean hygienic working environment
  • Identify and report any existing or potential faults and quality problems

Desired Skills and Experience

Requirements

  • Current Drivers Licence.
  • Ability to work both alone and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills 
  • Ability to organise/prioritise tasks and meet deadlines, whilst working under pressure
  • Mature and rational approach to problem solving
  • Flexibility - able to meet changing requirements
  • Initiative - ability to take quick action when required and actively pursue opportunities to make further contributions
  • Teamwork - ability to work with other people towards a common goal, establish effective collaborative relationships with other people in the business
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance Programs
  • Experience with diesel motor vehicles.
  • Experience in operating loaders, tractors, tipper trucks
  • Strong structural welding or fabrication with fit out experience (Mig, oxy etc) with the ability to read drawings and follow instructions.
