Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
We’re on the hunt for passionate and skilled individuals to take on the role of Head Stockperson and lead our team at South Galway Station. As the Head Stockperson, you’ll be at the forefront, managing stock staff and driving training and assessment programs based on our Operational Skills Framework. You’ll ensure that everything runs smoothly, aligning with company policies and hitting targets, all while upholding the highest standards of WHS principles. In this dynamic and ever-changing role, no two days will be alike, duties will include but are not limited to:
Manage, lead, and mentor station livestock staff and encourage strong communication with all other staff
Ensure welfare of all livestock according to Industry Standards/AACo Animal Welfare Policy
Plan and implement animal husbandry programs
Record and maintain accurate and prompt numbers for the company’s livestock information system
Assist and contribute to planning of; and implement; general maintenance/capital improvement programs
Knowledge and understanding of environmental and natural resources of the station/ work with management to maintain appropriate records.
Manage the implementation of AACo’s internal training framework
Desired Skills and Experience
Requirements
Minimum 4 years’ experience as a Leading Hand or Head Stockperson position.
Intermediate computer skills (including Microsoft Office suite) – Desirable
Experience with Stockmate, Livestock recording systems/programs or similar – Desirable
Extensive experience in cattle herd, pasture and water management & excellent cattle handling and horse-riding skills
Sound working knowledge of all on-station activities including bores, fencing, construction, machinery, earth moving, stockmanship
Knowledge of market specifications and ability to draft cattle according to specifications
Knowledge of Livestock Production Assurance Cattle Care Quality Assurance Program
Excellent leadership, communication skills and a mature and rational approach to problem-solving
Current Drivers and firearms Licence (Class A and B)
