About the Opportunity:

As the Senior Payroll Consultant, you will be the expert in all aspects of processing payroll and ensuring that AACo is up to date with changes in legislation.  Supporting the Payroll Team Lead, this role handles complex payroll matters, serves as an escalation point, and maintains payroll policies and procedures.

You will provide payroll insights to HR, Finance, and Station Operations Officers while actively contributing to payroll projects, process improvements, and financial controls. In this role, you will collaborate with our Payroll Consultant on the management of our payroll systems, EmpowerHR and Timefiler, which are hosted by Fusion 5.

 

 Your key responsibilities will include the following:  

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for monthly (200 staff) and fortnightly (300 staff) pay runs, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Supervise and mentor Payroll Consultant.
  • Ensure accurate recording of timesheets, leave entitlements, and employee benefits across all locations.
  • Process payroll taxes, benefits, and associated costs, ensuring timely payments.
  • Prepare and reconcile payroll reports, including EFT file to the Payroll Team Lead.
  • Provide payroll-related advice, training, and support to HR and wider team.
  • Act as a payroll subject matter expert (SME) for complex matters and projects.

Desired Skills and Experience

What you will bring to this role:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in end-to-end payroll processing, including payroll tax.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and influence stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, including working with remote teams.
  • Experience with Fusion 5 (advantageous).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt to different audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, HR, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
