About the Opportunity:
We’re looking for a Senior Payroll Consultant to join the team on a 12-month fixed-term contract who knows the ins and outs of payroll and can confidently support others with more complex issues. In this role, you’ll be a subject matter expert, working closely with the Payroll Team Leader and acting as a key escalation point for the team. You’ll help keep our processes compliant with changing legislation, make sure policies and procedures are regularly reviewed, and support continuous improvements.
You’ll also partner with HR, Finance, and Station Operating Officers to provide clear, timely payroll advice, and play an active role in payroll system projects and process improvements, particularly with EmpowerHR and TimeFiler.
Your key responsibilities will include the following:
Manage end-to-end payroll processing for 400 staff across monthly and fortnightly cycles
Ensure accurate recording of timesheets, leave entitlements, benefits, and allowances
Interpret Awards/Enterprise Agreements and ensure correct application to payroll
Process and reconcile payroll taxes and related costs in line with deadlines
Generate and transmit EFT files and payroll reports
Provide expert payroll advice and support to the Payroll Team Lead and HR
Support projects and initiatives as the payroll SME
Respond to payroll-related queries professionally and efficiently
Deliver guidance and training on complex payroll matters (e.g. tax, superannuation, terminations)
Collaborate with HR and office staff to ensure seamless payroll operations
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislative changes impacting payroll
Desired Skills and Experience
What you will bring to this role:
5+ years’ end-to-end payroll and payroll tax experience in a full-function environment
Proven ability to influence leaders and work effectively in fast-paced, remote team settings
Strong communication skills, with the ability to adapt to various audiences
Highly organised with strong prioritisation and time management skills
Strong attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement
Self-motivated, deadline driven, and able to work independently
Collaborative approach with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Experience with Fusion 5 (desirable)
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience
