Job Description
About the role:
We are looking for someone to lead the team at Avon Downs as the Head Stockperson for the newly built feeder yards. In this role you’ll take the lead on daily feeder yard operations, working closely with the Station Manager, Operations Manager and a small team of Station Hands. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll guide your team, ensuring livestock are managed safely, efficiently, and in line with best practice animal welfare standards. You’ll be a key part of our operations, supporting animal performance, team development, and continuous improvement across the feeder yard.
Key Responsibilities
Lead daily feeder yard operations, including livestock handling, pen riding, feeding, water supply, and dispatch.
Ensure animal welfare by monitoring pen conditions, implementing health protocols, and maintaining hygiene and biosecurity standards.
Drive a strong safety culture, conducting inductions, enforcing PPE use, and managing risk across all activities.
Manage and develop a small team, providing hands-on training, clear communication, and effective roster planning.
Coordinate feed logistics, including commodity movements, feed allocations, and accurate record keeping.
Oversee machinery use and maintenance, ensuring safe operation of tractors, mixers, and loaders.
Desired Skills and Experience
What We’re Looking For
A natural leader with at least 4 years’ experience in station or livestock feeding operations
Current Driver’s Licence (Heavy Vehicle preferred)
Confident managing feed allocations, machinery, and team rosters
Skilled in cattle handling, pen riding, and low-stress stock handling
Committed to safety, animal welfare, and doing things the right way
Comfortable using systems like Stockmate and Microsoft Office
Firearms Licence (Class A & B)
Chemical Users Accreditation
First Aid Certificate (or willing to obtain)
