Job Description

About the role

We are seeking a Home Tutor to join us at Brunette Station, NT! This unique role involves supervising and supporting two children enrolled through Mount Isa School of the Air, who will be in Years 2 and 5.

Brunette Downs is situated 350 km northeast of the nearest town, Tennant Creek.  Mount Isa, Queensland, is 660km southeast of Brunette Downs and is the Station’s main service town.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily school lessons and educational programs, ensuring adherence to the curriculum.
  • Maintain regular contact with teachers via phone, email, and reporting systems, providing feedback to parents and liaising on student progress.
  • Plan and prepare lessons, encouraging extracurricular activities such as sports, art, and science.
  • Provide childcare outside school hours as needed, including occasional supervision of both children on non-school days, some late afternoon finishes, and school holiday care.
  • Maintain a child-safe environment and ensure the schoolroom is clean, tidy, and safe.
  • Work collaboratively with station team members, participating in meetings and supporting broader station activities.
  • Assist with station social activities, including helping with the Social Club (e.g., counting tills, restocking fridges).
  • Perform occasional domestic duties such as preparing guest rooms and gardening tasks as needed.
  • Provide occasional relief cooking for the station, typically on weekends and during school holidays.

Desired Skills and Experience

Knowledge and Skills

  • Current Driver’s Licence (own vehicle is an advantage)
  • Blue Card / NT Ochre Card (Working With Children Check)
  • Previous experience as a Governess or Home Tutor (experience in tutoring or distance education is highly regarded).
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with patience and understanding of each child’s abilities.
  • Kind, positive, and adaptable personality, able to work flexibly and embrace change.
  • Ability to fit into a team environment and enjoy station life.
  • Demonstrated interest in arts, crafts, and extracurricular development.
  • Willingness to learn Type 1 Diabetes management during school hours.
